Student Spotlight: Parker Arntsen

Parker is a Science Major at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College Main Campus.

My name is Parker Arntsen, I am Yup’ik and Ojibwe first nations and a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe. I’m still in high school as a senior at Northern Waters Environmental School in Hayward, Wisconsin.

I am dual enrolled at LCOOC as a Science Major currently enrolled in 15 credits. I live in Hayward, Wisconsin with my two moms, my brother, my two dogs, and my cat.

I decided to take classes at LCOOC because I wanted to get a jump-start on my college education. I am able to take as many classes as I am because I have worked hard to gain the credits I need to graduate high school early. I took as many elective classes as I could and participated in summer institutes which translated to high school credit. LCOOC is a good choice for me because it is local and my girlfriend began attending LCOOC this semester as well, starting something new is less scary when someone you love is doing it with you.

To anyone who is undecided on starting college, go for it and give it 100%. The world really opened up for me after I started college in a way I didn’t receive in high school. I would encourage you to go to college and to always be looking for opportunities and try new things.
