Student Spotlight: Eunice Zamora
Eunice is a Human Services Major at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College Main Campus.
My name is Eunice Corbine. I am a descendent of the Baker family, a first-generation college student, First Degree Midewin, and mother of four. I am a daughter, sister, aunt, and I live here on Lac Courte Oreilles.
I chose LCOOC because my older sister came here and she always talked about how much she liked this school. I also like the fact that it is an Ojibwe College; I can come here and learn more about my culture. I love that you come here and learn the language if you want to do that. That is awesome!
The Ojibwe Culture is mixed in with the courses, which is an important part of this college. Also, it is closer to home. I live with my mother and I like the fact that I can be here for her.
I am not part of any student organizations at this time... school, work, and being in recovery is a full load for me right now.
I am hoping by the time I graduate, LCOOC will have a master's program for social work. It means a great deal to me I can stay in my community to be closer to my mom and others. This is where I need to be. It means the most to me!
I was told as a teenager that I was not college material. I believed that for the longest time, but being here has shown me that they were wrong.
