Student Spotlight: Antonette Koons

Antonette is seeking a Masters in English Education.

I am a non-traditional student as I am 54 years old and an adjunct teacher.  I will be taking courses to obtain my Masters in English Education in order to be able to teach additional courses at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College.

I have taken courses in accounting to obtain my Graduate Certificate in Accounting, and of those my favorite course was Intermediate Accounting.

I love working for the college and would like to be able to offer more to the students at and give back to the college as Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College has given me great opportunities.

I enjoy teaching at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College because it's student-centered and is very supportive of its students and faculty.  The cultural offerings, as well as the opportunities provided to the students and staff is amazing.

Once I complete my Master's degree I hope to continue teaching more and more classes as an adjunct at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College.  Receiving the Mellon Masters Scholarship is like a dream come true. I have always wanted to obtain a Masters degree in English, and this scholarship is giving me the opportunity to finally achieve that. I am so grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to start this next part of my education and career.

It means so much to me to work at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College.  I have been given great opportunities, met wonderful people and feel very fulfilled and am looking forward to this next part of my education.

I love having the opportunity to work at this college that is so supportive of its Tribal students and all students.  I have been able to learn so much about the Ojibwe culture and have a deep respect and appreciation for the Tribal students and staff at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College.

You can get so much from an education at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College, the student experience, the knowledge, the fellowship and the incredible support.

**Antonette is featured in the January edition of Aabidaanagidoon.
