The Marie Kuykendall Scholarship Announced at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University

Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University (LCOOU) is excited to announce the creation of the Marie Kuykendall Scholarship.  The family of Marie have committed $500 per year over a course of 5 years.

An integral part of Marie Kuykendall’s journey has been her education, beginning with her grandmother’s encouragement of how important education would be for her future. Marie instilled this instruction toward her own children as well. Marie would later become the first Chief Financial Officer of the Board of Regents, investing her time and knowledge into the future of (then) Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College. She stated, “It is through learning that we can take care of ourselves and our family.”

Increased scholarship offerings reduce the barriers of tuition and textbook costs for Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University students. This reduction in barriers supports the University’s mission to provide Anishinaabe communities with post-secondary and continuing education while advancing the language, culture, and history of the Ojibwe.

The scholarship application will be available on the university website, www.lco.edu/scholarships and open to students enrolled or a descendent of Lac Courte Oreilles or another federally recognized American Indian Tribe in their second semester at the University maintaining a 2.5 GPA and is responsible to care for their family. For further questions, call 715-634-4790 ext. 186 or email advancement@lco.edu.
