Student Spotlight: Nicole Miller

Associates in Business Administration

Ever since I started pursuing higher education in 2014, I wanted to get my degree in Small Business management. I took some time off from school, working and figuring out who and what I wanted to do with my life, and realizing how close I was to getting my Associate’s degree. I now know that earning my degree will help to achieve my goal of being a Native American female small business owner. The knowledge and skills I gain here will help me inspire more Native American women to strive toward their own dreams and goals.

Attending LCOOU gives me a good sense of being part of the community in which I live. Faculty and staff are very supportive of their students. While there are a variety of services and programs to help their students succeed, I utilize the TRIO to help the most.

I love that going to LCOO University is even an option and so close to home. I can attend my classes during the day and drive home five minutes down the road. Having the University located on the reservation goes to show what an accomplishment it is to help better the future for us and our community. I love to see all the students using their degrees and see them and their families build up their dreams.

My Accounting I class will be most helpful for me and my future small business. Plus, coming from an auditing background, I like it when the numbers are balanced.

My advice to others, would be just start with some basic courses. Take a career test to see what some of the options are out there for you. You may gain the tools and skills you need to figure out where you’d like to venture out.

I want to start getting my small business up and running. By the time I graduate, I will have started on my business plan to present to the bank. Having an Associate degree in Small Business will help me to acquire a small business loan and know how to run my own business properly and profitably.

Don’t give up. I have been out of the university setting for ten years. I knew coming back was going to be a challenge, but LCOOU has made it so easy to come back and finish what I started.
