Every second counts: IAC approved LCOOU’s request for Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
(Lac Courte Oreilles, WI) – May 10, 2024 – Gloves on, LCOOU! On April 30, 2024, the Institutional Actions Council (IAC) of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approved the University’s request to offer a seven-credit Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate. The IAC will publicize the action on the HLC website in 30 days.
“Beginning this fall, we will be offering the EMT course at multiple convenient locations including Red Cliff, Hayward, and Gordon. We are excited to bring this opportunity to our rural communities where emergency medical service providers are greatly needed. We look forward to partnering with our communities to save lives,” Jamie Gohde, nursing program director, said.
President Russell Swagger agreed, adding, “This is yet another accomplishment this year that goes to show how mission-oriented we are. We are built from the Anishinaabe people to serve the Anishinaabe people and their needs. This process started from noticing a shortage in EMTs. Since then, we have been working hard to alleviate that shortage. And today we can celebrate this milestone, one among many to come, together. Miigwech to those who help us. Miigwech to those who believe.”
