I was the first one of my family to go to college and would have been low income as well, so I understand many of the issues facing a majority of our students. Being from a farming community in Montana, my siblings and I definitely learned a good work ethic and taking care of others since neighbors in the community were helped when the need arose as well as being willing to help us as needed.
Our 3 children all went to college or trade school, but we had a pig farm by that time, so we were unable to help them with college money, meaning they had to borrow money for going to college. One is still working to pay his debt off, but he does have sufficient income now to pay if off faster if he wanted.
It is never too late to reach your dreams. I needed 16 hours of graduate credit to get my teacher's license back, so I was able to get into a grant program to get my master's degree at the age of 50 to get back into teaching! I very much enjoy helping people find a solution to questions they have, especially better understanding of most mathematics.

It is near enough to where we live, plus I have taught among Native American populations most of my teaching career and admire so many of their traditions and ways to take care of illnesses through common plants. I am so glad we are reclaiming ways to feel secure in who we are and why we are here at this time and place.

I enjoy reading, doing puzzles, word games, painting pictures, and spending time with my grandkids besides my math interests.
