General Registration Information

Student Responsibility
Students are responsible for the applicable information contained in the catalog. Registration is a student's personal responsibility. Students receive credit only for those courses in which they are properly registered. Likewise, students must pay for every course for which he/she is registered unless officially canceled; this includes courses where "W" grades are assigned.
Registering for Classes
Students must see their advisor to plan for the upcoming semester. The registration period is posted on the academic calendar.
Registration Changes - Changes to your registration may be made following your initial registration by dropping/adding courses during the add/drop period for Fall or Spring terms. Days vary in Summer session classes.
Maximum Credit Load - You will not be able to register for more credits than allowed in the credit load schedule found in the class schedule (see "Academic Policies"). Overloads authorized by your advisor or by petition must be processed in person at the Registrar's Office.
Officially Registered - You are a registered student if you are enrolled in one or more courses. As a registered student, you are responsible for payment of all fees and for grades in these courses, unless you officially drop classes or withdraw from the College by the appropriate deadlines.
Course Prerequisites - Check the prerequisites of courses to see if you meet the requirements. You will not be allowed to register for a course in which you do not have the required prerequisites, without instructor written consent and presented to the Registrar's Office.
Time Conflicts - If you attempt to register for overlapping courses, you will receive a message about the time conflict. If the faculty agree and sign the add form, you are permitted to register for the course with the conflict. You must present the signed form to the Registrar's Office for processing.

The Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University mission is to provide Anishinaabe communities with post-secondary and continuing education while advancing the language, culture, and history of the Ojibwe.

Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University fosters the highest levels of student success in academic and personal growth by providing an advanced technological education that integrates Ojibwe culture throughout the curriculum. We are an institution that serves the educational and cultural needs of the community and individual student goals, while empowering purposeful, skilled action that sustains Ojibwe culture.

Philosophy
The university curriculum will reflect identified needs and interests of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa by providing academic, vocational, adult basic education, cultural, and community programs. The primary purpose is to meet the needs of the Native American population and maintain an open door policy.

Statement of Principle
All students in associate degree and certificate programs need to complete courses that meet the General Education Requirements. The General Education Program at LCOOU is intended to provide a foundation for future academic and career success. It presents an array of disciplines enabling our students to make informed decisions, develop an understanding of diversity, and create enthusiasm for learning. Built into the foundation of LCOOU is the strong heritage and ethnicity that the college and the community have to offer. While meeting the needs and standards of a sound General Education, LCOOU has incorporated materials in the curriculum coursework to include the culture, wisdom, and self-determination of the Lake Superior Ojibwe.

Academic Opportunity
Provide quality instruction for academic and personal enhancement.
Offer appropriate curriculum leading to Bachelor of Science, Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees, one-year certificates, specialized certificates, and programs of cultural enrichment. Graduate programming pending approval from the Higher Learning Commission.
Student Services
Maintain open enrollment.
Foster student academic performance as well as growth in areas of cultural interest and social development.
Community Outreach
Help develop resources and technical assistance for community projects and community research.
Function as an information and educational resource in the community. Provide leadership for cultural preservation. Facilitate training for tribal economic development.
